May 15: Da Vinci Code author to be featured in live streaming program6:30pm at the Stillwater Public Library. The event, “An Evening of Codes, Symbols, and Secrets,” will be Dan Brown’s only appearance for the release of his new book, “Inferno,” which will out on May 14. Brown will discuss the new novel, along with issues of science, religion, codes, book publishing, movie making, and a few surprise topics.  The event will be shown on the library’s new video conferencing equipment received through a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries last year. For more information about the free event or to ask about using the library’s videoconferencing system, visit the library’s webpage at http://library.stillwater.org, call 405-372-3633 or email askalibrarian@stillwater.org.

May 15 – 16:  Food Labeling Workshop, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Food & Agricultural Products Center, 2nd Floor, OSU Campus.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Regulatory Affairs and the Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center will hold a public Food Labeling Workshop to provide information about FDA food labeling regulations and other related subjects to the regulated industry, particularly small businesses and startups.  Topics to be discussed at the workshop include; (1)Mandatory label elements, (2) Nutrition labeling requirements, (3) Health and nutrition claims, (4) Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004, and (5) Special labeling issues such as exemptions.  Registration:  Cost: $400 – A $25 fee will be billed to those who fail to cancel or attend.  Parking, lunch, snacks, and a workbook are included in the cost.  A certificate will be presented to each participant upon completion of the workshop.  Seats are limited.  Course space will be filled in order of receipt of registration.  Those accepted into the course will receive confirmation.  Registration will close after the course is filled.  Registration at the site is not guaranteed but may be possible depending on space availability.  Register (Visa, MasterCard, Cash or Checks Accepted), or call Karen Smith at 405-744-6277 to pay by phone.

Duncan St.  Join the Sheerar Museum of Stillwater History and other area museums as we celebrate Oklahoma Museums Week!  The Oklahoma Museums Association and Oklahoma Arts Council are joining with Oklahoma museums, historical societies, historic sites, zoos and botanical gardens, historic houses, living history museums, tribal cultural centers and other cultural organizations and museum-related institutions statewide to celebrate Oklahoma Museums Week, May 12-18.  Oklahoma Museums Week is dedicated to celebrating the rich variety of museums in Oklahoma, their contributions to the economy, civic and cultural life and the unique, personal experiences museums offer visitors each and every day. Governor Mary Fallin has been asked to proclaim Oklahoma Museums Week as a time for communities to recognize Oklahoma museums and the contributions they make to preserve Oklahoma’s rich culture. Oklahoma legislators as well as OMA members will receive a museums advocacy piece in early May. Oklahoma Museums Week is sponsored in part by Loretta Y.
