July 23, 2012

July 23:  Gorgeous Grandma’s Day, All day event, Fit Body Studio (211 N. Perkins Rd., Rosewood Hills Shopping Center)  All day, Studio classes are free for grandmothers! Join us for contests, door prizes, and goodie bags from local businesses.

July 24:  Walk-n-Talk Series, 7:15 – 7:45 am, Botanic Garden at OSU.  Free to the public. A wonderful opportunity to walk in The Botanic Gardens, get some exercise and enjoy what’s blooming in the gardens.  Cancelled if weather is inclement.

July 24:  Kevin Wade (Magician), 10:00 am – 4:30 pm, Stillwater Public Library.  Three performances.  Come early as room has limited amount of seating available.  Show times begin at 10:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.  Shows are one hour in length.  To ensure seating for a performance it is recommended that you arrive at least fifteen minutes before show time.

 

July 24:  2012 OWL & COE Summer Camps/Something to Write About!, Willard Hall, OSU Campus.  These are our popular 3-day camps for 8-12 year olds, held at the College of Education and other locations on the OSU campus.  In addition to our Insect Adventure camps, we have brand new topics this year including taking a virtual trip to Italy, learning about inventors and their inventions, becoming a filmmaker, and writing and journaling about a variety of experiences during camp days.  Ages  8 – 12 year olds  Cost:  $85 for the first camp your child attends; $75 for additional camps.  Make the monsters under your bed come to life, become the president and create your own rules, create sausage sentences, create and act out stories, keep a discovery journal, develop wrong memory, and imagine where your magic carpet ride will take you.  OWL and the College of Education partner with OSU Writing center to come together to help you write about your wildest experiences.  This camp is held at Willard Hall on the OSU campus.

July 24 & 26:  WONDERtorium 2012 Early Childhood Summer Camps/Owl Olympics, 10:00 am – Noon, Oklahoma WONDERtorium, 308 W. Franklin.  Ages 3 & 4.  Children must be fully potty trained.  Cost:  $25 members  $30 non-members.  The WONDERtorium will host our own version of the Olympics just in time for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

 

July 24 & 26:  WONDERtorium, 2012 Early Childhood Summer Camps/Owl Olympics, 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Oklahoma WONDERtorium, 308 W. Franklin.  Ages 5, 6 & 7  Cost:  $25 member  $30 non-members.  The WONDERtorium will host our own version of the Olympics just in time for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

 

July 25 – 27:  91st State 4-H Roundup, All day event, OSU Campus.

July 25:  Nighttime Diversions Finale (Teen Summer Reading), 2:00 – 3:30 pm, Stillwater Public Library.  Our final program features feature games and the drawings for the Kindle Fires! A special “Buzzworthy Bistro” just for young adults will give you an update on all the hottest teen titles that will keep you intrigued and occupied for the rest of the summer! “Own the Night” teen summer reading @ your library is open to students entering grades 6-12. Students can read all summer long to earn prizes and chances to win one of two Kindle Fires.

 

July 25:  Oklahoma WONDERtorium 2012 Wednesday Camps/Gross Science, 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Oklahoma WONDERtorium, 308 W. Franklin.  Ages 5, 6 & 7  Cost:  $20 WONDERtorium Members/ $25 non-members.  It’s ooey, it’s gooey, it’s Science!  Two hours of hands on learning and fun.

July 26:  Red Cross Blood Drive:  Boots & Badges, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm, Stillwater Community Center, Lower Activity Room.

July 26:  Relay for Life Team Fundraiser, 5:00 – 9:00 pm, Golden Dragon Café.

 

July 26:  Summer on the Plaza, 5:00 – Midnight, Student Union Plaza, OSU.  The Student Union will host Summer on the Plaza and open its doors to the Stillwater community as well as to OSU students, faculty and staff.  There will be everything from live performances and free movies to extended shopping and dining hours with lots of family-friendly entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

 

July 27:  Cool Classics Summer Concert Series – Featuring Amy Cottingham, 7:30 – 9:00 pm, Sheerar Museum of Stillwater History.  Coming Fridays in July, the Sheerar Museum of Stillwater History will once again host the Cool Classics Summer Concert Series.  Every Friday in July at 7:30 pm local and Tulsa musicians will perform free for the public! In its Sixth Season, the Cool Classics Summer Concert Series has become a summer tradition in Stillwater.  For more information, call the Sheerar Museum at 377-0359 or visit the website at www.sheerarmuseum.org  This year’s Cool Classics Concert series is made possible by a matching grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council and with the support of the Stillwater Museum Association.

July 27:  Cueless for CASA – Comedy Show & Renaissance Fair, 6:30 – 10:00 pm, Town and Gown Theatre.  All tickets for this event must be purchased through CASA.  Purchase tickets at www.casaforkids.com or call 405-624-2242.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.  Show begins at 7:00 p.m.  Royal Court Seating $35 floor seats include drinks and special props.  $20 General Admission ($25 at the door).

July 28:  Southern Gospel Sing, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Southside Baptist Church, 1223 S. Perkins Rd.  Featured group is The Weatherfords, nationally-known gospel singers that began this group in the 1940′s and have been regularly featured in the Gaither video sessions.  Also singing will be Mr. Bob Duke, along with For His Purpose quartet.  A love offering will be received.

Tour de Quartz, Gardiner Art Gallery, OSU Campus.  The exhibition showcases work produced by high school students during the Summer Arts Institute at the Quartz Mountain Resort in southwestern Oklahoma.  This selected work tours the state throughout 2012.  The Gardiner Art Gallery is open 9 to 5 Monday through Friday and 10 to 2 Saturday.
