May 2: Stillwater Jazz Band “Spring Fling”, 7:30 – 9:30 pm, Stillwater Community Center. Free and open to the public. Come join this spring celebration as the band will be offering a smorgasbord of music; music ranging from the traditional 1940′s to current songs; rock ‘n roll to swing, blues, fusion, ballads, and popular Broadway songs. This seriously lighthearted ensemble is made up of musicians from a 50 mile radius of Stillwater and includes band directors, retired band directors, working folks and students.

Participants will learn key, lifesaving skills that can improve survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest. The Oklahoma Museums Association and Oklahoma Arts Council are joining with Oklahoma museums, historical societies, historic sites, zoos and botanical gardens, historic houses, living history museums, tribal cultural centers and other cultural organizations and museum-related institutions statewide to celebrate Oklahoma Museums Week, May 12-18. Oklahoma Museums Week is dedicated to celebrating the rich variety of museums in Oklahoma, their contributions to the economy, civic and cultural life and the unique, personal experiences museums offer visitors each and every day. Governor Mary Fallin has been asked to proclaim Oklahoma Museums Week as a time for communities to recognize Oklahoma museums and the contributions they make to preserve Oklahoma’s rich culture. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Regulatory Affairs and the Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center will hold a public Food Labeling Workshop to provide information about FDA food labeling regulations and other related subjects to the regulated industry, particularly small businesses and startups. Topics to be discussed at the workshop include; (1)Mandatory label elements, (2) Nutrition labeling requirements, (3) Health and nutrition claims, (4) Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004, and (5) Special labeling issues such as exemptions. Registration: Cost: $400 – A $25 fee will be billed to those who fail to cancel or attend. Parking, lunch, snacks, and a workbook are included in the cost. May 15: Da Vinci Code author to be featured in live streaming program, 6:30pm at the Stillwater Public Library. The event, “An Evening of Codes, Symbols, and Secrets,” will be Dan Brown’s only appearance for the release of his new book, “Inferno,” which will out on May 14. Brown will discuss the new novel, along with issues of science, religion, codes, book publishing, movie making, and a few surprise topics. The event will be shown on the library’s new video conferencing equipment received through a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries last year. May 21: Botanic Garden at OSU “Walk and Talk” series, 7:00 – 7:45 am, Botanic Gardens at OSU. Start your Tuesday mornings off with a little exercise and a peaceful state of mind by strolling through the gardens with Laura Payne, The Botanic Garden Volunteer/Educator Coordinator. Each week we will check out what’s new and blooming in the garden. We walk anywhere from 1 – 3 miles on the TBG trails. Location: The Botanic Garden at OSU Highway 51 Entrance Free and open to the public.

May 24: Stillwater High School Graduation, 8:00 – 10:00 pm, Gallagher Iba Arena, OSU Campus.
May 24 – 25: Project Graduation, 11:00 pm – 3:00 am, Colvin Center, OSU Campus. This is a parent/community run event that is a safe alcohol free, drug free last chance for the senior class to get together for fun activities and prizes, free food and beverages. Any SHS or Lincoln Academy graduating 2013 senior and parents are welcome.
May 25 – 26: 15th Annual Wood Bat Memorial Day (Stillwater Youth Baseball Tournament), All day event, Whittenberg Park, Strickland Park, and Babcock Park. Baseball tournament for competitive baseball teams from ages 7 to 14. USSSA sanctioned. May 27: Memorial Day-Free Admission at the Oklahoma WONDERtorium, 6:00 am – 5:00 pm, Oklahoma WONDERtorium, 308 W. Franklin. That’s RIGHT—11 hours of time to play to learn at the Oklahoma WONDERtorium! We start the day off with another visit from Terre’ Gables and a LIVE FEED from the WONDERtorium on FOX KOKH-25 in Oklahoma City! Be on TV with us—come at 6:00 am, Terre’ and the TV crew will be here until 9:45 am! Then, we’re open with FREE ADMISSION for ALL DAY to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of summer!
May 27 – 31: Scholastic Book Fair at the WONDERtorium, Oklahoma WONDERtorium, 308 W. Franklin. Come for the good reads, stay for a day of play! We are hosting a Scholastic book fair the week of the 27th in our education room. Literacy abounds when you look through our great assortment of books suitable for a wide range of ages and price points. Are you ready? There’s more! May 28: Getting the most out of your digital camera, Noon – 1:00 pm, Payne County Administration Building. Lunch is included for those who RSVP by noon the Monday before the meeting. May 28 – 30: Meridian Technology Center Summer Camp-Go Girls, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Meridian Technology Center, 1312 S. Sangre Rd. Experience cool technology like lasers used by spies, try the latest equipment used in medicine, launch a rocket and investigate an unknown planet. Campers will spend time at Meridian and OSU tinkering with awesome engineering tools. Cost: $50 Camp includes lunch, snacks, transportation from your school to Meridian, t-shirt, supplies and certified instructors. May 29 – June 1: Stillwater Pioneer Basketball Camp, 8:15 am – 4:00 pm, Stillwater High School Performing Arts Center. Children ages 6 – 15 years old are eligible to participate and will be divided according to age and ability. Camp costs $125 and will cover ball handling, defensive stance and position, form shooting, offensive moves, passing fundamentals, rebounding techniques and team concepts. May 31: Tee It Up for Teens Golf Tournament, 8:00 am – 1:30 pm, Lakeside Golf Course, 5201 N. Washington.
