September 8:  Guest Artist – h2 Quartet, Saxophones, 2:30 – 4:00 pm, Seretean Center, OSU Campus.  This event is free and open to the public.


September 9 – 14:  3 Points Karate Bring a Buddy Week, 10:00 am – 8:00 pm, 3 Points Karate, 824 S. Main St.  3 Points Karate students are allowed to bring a friend to class so they can have fun together.  This is also open to non-students, if they don’t have a friend in class they are free to call 3PK at (405) 372-5425 to schedule a class time to try it out.

September 10:  Botanic Garden at OSU “Walk n Talk”, 7:00 – 7:45 am, Botanic Garden at OSU.  Start your Tuesday mornings off with a little exercise and a peaceful state of mind by strolling through the gardens with Laure Payne, The Botanic Garden Volunteer/Educator Coordinator.  Each week we will check out what’s new and blooming in the garden.  We walk anywhere from 1 – 3 miles on the TBG trails.

September 10 – 11:  Volunteer Training, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Judith Karman Hospice, 915 S. Main St.  Judith Karman Hospice is recruiting new volunteers to help the agency serve terminally ill patients and their families in Stillwater and surrounding communities in a variety of ways.  Judith Karman Hospice is the only non-profit hospice based in Stillwater.  In addition to full-time medical staff, volunteers visit patients and help with everything from providing companionship to allowing caregivers a chance to run errands and keep appointments.  Judith Karman Hospice could not function if it weren’t for the caring and compassionate volunteers.  In addition to volunteering for patient care, other volunteer responsibilities may include the opportunity to work with the bereaved families, in Karman Korner resale shop, in the hospice administrative office, as helpers with special events, our Pet Peace of Mind program or any combination of the possibilities.  Volunteers at Judith Karman Hospice provide much-needed time off for family caregivers, help comfort the bereaved families, add administrative support in our offices and assist Karman Korner staff, Stillwater’s premier resale shop.

September 10:  Science Café, 6:30 – 8:00 pm, Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room, Edmon Low Library, OSU Campus.  OSU Science Cafe is a monthly event that highlights interesting, relevant, and current science research.  The events are an opportunity to participate in lively and engaging conversations about science.  Refreshments provided.  This event is free and open to the public.  No science background is assumed or required.

September 10:  Dewey Decimal Theater, 6:30 – 8:30 pm, Stillwater Public Library, 1107 S. Duck.  Enjoy popcorn and a big screen showing of a rated PG live action film about a congressman who has been called upon to build an ark.

September 11:  Medicare Open Enrollment Senior Summit, 9:00 am – Noon, Meridian Technology Center, 1312 S. Sangre Rd.  Oklahoma’s 600,000 Medicare beneficiaries can learn more about their enrollment options during a series of Senior Summits conducted by the Oklahoma Medicare Assistance Program (MAP).  The events are designed to prepare Medicare beneficiaries for open enrollment, which takes place from October 15 to December 7.  Any changes made during this time go into effect Jan. 1, 2014.  Those who can’t attend a Senior Summit are encouraged to call MAP at 1-800-763-2828.  Free and open to the public.

September 12:  Gallery Talk, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, Gardiner Art Gallery, OSU Campus.  Join Dr. Shaoqian Zhang, Assistant Professor of Art History, and Shawn Yuan, Curator of Exhibitions, for a talk in the gallery to learn more about the works currently on view in the gallery.  Free and open to the public.

September 12:  “Wildcrafting Stillwater” with Foraging Expert, Jackie Dill, 6:30 – 8:30 pm, Stillwater Public Library, 1107 S. Duck St.  The program will focus on locating and harvesting the edibles, herbs and mushrooms that grow in the Stillwater area.  Participants will learn which dishes and household products, like laundry soap, can be made with the foraged items.  Dill will also explain how to locate material to use in crafting and share examples of the crafts she has constructed.  Participants are asked to bring notebooks and writing instruments to the presentation.  For more information about the free program or additional resources, please visit the library’s website at, call 405-372-3633 x106 or email

last train home

September 12:  Film Series – Last Train Home, 7:00 – 8:30 pm, 101 Classroom Building, OSU Campus.  A film by Fan Lixin   This documentary reveals the annual mass exodus in China.  Every spring, China’s major cities are plunged into a chaotic tidal wave of humanity, as over 130 million migrant workers attempt to return home by train.  It is the Chinese New Year.  The homes to which these migrant workers return are the rural villages and families they left behind to seek employment in the booming coastal cities.  It is an epic spectacle that tells the audience much about China, a country discarding its rural past as it hurtles towards modernity and global economic dominance.  Last Train Home’s intimate observation of one fractured family sheds light on the human cost of China’s ascendance as an economic superpower.  (2009, 87 minutes)

September 13:  Gospel with a Purpose Gospel Sing, 7:00 – 9:00 pm, 1st Christian Church, 411 W. Matthews St.  Great evening of southern gospel music, featuring For HIS Purpose quartet, along with JuBELLation, and FCC bell choir.  Help support the selected non-profit organization for September, Life Adult Day Center, by bringing items of need, as shown on our website,  Everyone welcome, no admission fee.  A love offering will be received for the ministry of For HIS Purpose.

September 14:  Fall Into the Holidays Craft Show, all day, Payne County Expo Center.  The Fall into the Holidays Craft Show, held annually at the Payne County Expo Center in Stillwater, features more than 120 booths with handmade items and various crafts on display.  This craft show will feature vendors from a tri-state area.  Door prize drawings will also be held throughout the day.


September 14:  SUAB Game Day, 3:30 – 5:00 pm, Student Union Plaza, OSU Campus.  It’s the first home football game of the season and Student Union Activities Board wants to celebrate with tailgate in true Oklahoma State fashion.  Tailgate starts at 3:30 followed by the Spirit Walk at 4:30 p.m.  Be sure to be there to cheer on the Cowboys as they make their way from the Student Union to Boone Pickens Stadium!  Free and open to the public.


September 14:  Bring a Buddy, Break a Board at 3 Points Karate, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, 3 Points Karate, 824 S.
